Drexel Welcomes JMU To The DAC Tonight

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Drexel is the lone City 6 men's team in action tonight as the Dragons welcome James Madison to the DAC.

Drexel is 3-12 this season (1-3 in the CAA) and coming off a 1-1 road swing. The Dragons picked up a 55-41 win at Towson last Thursday, but then they fell short at UNC-Wilmington on Saturday, 64-57. In that loss junior guard Damion Lee exploded for 32 points, but no other Dragon was able to break into double figures.

"That's been one of our bigger problems throughout the year," Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint tells KYW Newsradio. "Dam has played unbelievably well and we just need some help. In the Towson game, (junior guard) Tavon (Allen) and (senior guard) Freddie Wilson stepped up and made plays for us, but we just didn't get it in the Wilmington game. But the guys are playing hard and we've just got to find some consistency, which we've struggled with a little bit."

Lee leads the Dragons in scoring this season at 20.8 ppg.

The Dragons have really been hit hard with injuries this season and right now they are making due with just eight healthy players.

"At times we don't even have eight in practice," Flint says. "We've had some illnesses, Damion's coming off an ACL, he's playing a lot of minutes in the games, so you have to be careful with him in practice a little bit. It's been a little rough. At times in practice we only have six, sometimes seven. But that's the hand we've been dealt. I think the guys have really improved and I think they've been working hard. Not only that, four of our eight guys are freshmen, so they're new. So this is all new to them. It's been a learning experience. We've played a little bit better and hopefully we can continue to steal a couple more of these games."

Tonight the Dragons face a James Madison team that is 9-8 this season, 2-2 in the CAA.

"They play almost the entire roster," Flint says. "They play a lot of guys. (Sophomore forward) Yohanny Dalembert, who's from Lower Merion, has played really well for them. (Junior guard) Ronald Curry, who's from the New Jersey area, has played well for them. They're really balanced, got a lot of guys, throw a lot of bodies at you. They'll pressure you a little bit, (then) go back and play their zone."

James Madison has lost two straight coming into this one.

Drexel and JMU tip-off at 7:00pm tonight at the DAC.
