Drexel University Medical Students Complete Residencies As Part Of "Match Day"
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Medical students could breathe a sigh of relief Friday as many around the country learned where they'll be completing their residencies as part of "Match Day."
"Im going to New York Presby, Cornell - Columbia so I'm so happy, I wanted to stay close to home. It's an amazing program and I'm so happy right now," said Diksha Mishra of Drexel University's College of Medicine .
"I'm going to Staten Island to practice emergency medicine," said Mike Kaiserain.
"I'm going to Duke University Medical Center," said Luke Gatta.
Drexel University's College of Medicine officials tell Eyewitness News, Drexel University has one of the largest medical schools in the country, and that its match rate is slightly higher than the national average.
"They apply, they go on interviews and then it's all done by computers, they put their preferences in, and the residents put their preferences in as well and you know the magic of computers, students get matched," said Vice President of Educational Affairs Valerie Weber.
"It's crazy," Kaiserain said, "You wait for four years and everything comes down to just one school and a paper."
