Dragnet Out For Dozens of Fugitives in Bensalem Township

BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) -- Bensalem police, in Bucks County, are conducting an intense search for nearly five dozen fugitives wanted on a variety of charges.
Fred Harran, the township's director of public safety, says township police are working with Philadelphia police, Radnor Township police, and state constables in a multi-county roundup targeting 58 people.
"These are folks are wanted on a variety of charges, many felonies: drug dealing, drug possession, burglaries, and a whole bunch of other crimes," he notes. "These are folks that have been able to elude us over the past year or so, and now we're bringing in a lot of people to try and get them off the street."
The fugitive roundup began about 6:30am this morning, and Harran says it will continue for the next day or so.
He says police were starting to get calls from some of the wanted suspects who are hearing from their relatives that police were knocking on doors, searching for certain people, advising surrender.
Harran says police do fugitive sweeps at least once a year, to clear a backlog of cases and bring suspects into the justice system.
