'Di Wu Plays Mendelssohn'

By Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Chamber Orchestra's 50th Anniversary Season opens with "Di Wu Plays Mendelssohn" on September 14th & 15th.

"Di Wu, she's an up and coming, just wonderful rising star. She was a Van Cliburn winner, which is a very important international piano competition and is just a sensational pianist, and we're super lucky to have her," explains Executive Director Janelle McCoy.

Music Director Dirk Brossé will be conducting three beloved works in the classical repertoire.

"We're opening the season with the prelude to the third act of 'La Traviata,' which is an opera by Verdi – probably one of the most loved and in my opinion, most known of his operas. The other two pieces, we have the Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 2, which is what Di Wu will be playing. We end the concert with a Beethoven symphony, which is very beloved – it's the Symphony No. 6, also known as the Pastorale."
