Del. Museum Celebrates Record-breaking Year
WINTERTHUR, Del. (CBS) – A Delaware museum is saying thanks for Lady Mary, Lord Grantham and the entire cast of Downton Abbey.
The Winterthur Museum says it welcomed its 200,000th visitor on Friday, Dec. 14th – a record that's "largely attributable" to its exhibition, "Costumes of Downton Abbey."
The 40-plus costumes and jewelry have been on display at the museum most of the year. Museum officials say they're organized chronologically and allow visitors to experience a typical day in the life of the Crawley and DuPont families during the early part of the 20th century.
The museum also says it expects even more visitors to come through its doors before the end of the year. The annual "Yuletide at Winterthur" exhibit includes a Downton-twist for 2014.
"When we decided to curate an exhibition on Downton Abbey…we knew it would be popular and we are delighted that has proved to be the case," said Dr. David Roselle, Director of Winterthur. "We are planning additional exhibits and programs that we believe will appeal to lots of Winterthur's members and friends."
"Costumes of Downton Abbey" runs through January 4, 2015.
