Cupcake Smash Teams With Philabundance At The Piazza
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The fourth annual Cupcake Smash benefiting Philabundance took place at the Piazza in Northern Liberties on Saturday, and hundreds of cupcakes were eaten to benefit a worthy cause.
"It's a chance for amateur and professional bakers to do their best with some of the items from our most needed foods list," said Erica Vanstone with Philabundance. "There is a little bit of that hunger education component involved, but mostly we want to see how creative they can be with delicious ingredients."
When asked about the craziest cupcake she's seen so far, Vanstone said, "Either the cheese plate or the vegetarian chili."
Vanstone says the goal is to raise money and awareness to end hunger in Philadelphia.
"The recession and the cuts to SNAP benefits hit families really hard, so we're working hard to bridge that gap."
She says hunger affects people across all neighborhoods and economic backgrounds.
