2 Hospitalized Following Motel Fire In Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) -- Authorities say two women were taken to the hospital following a fire at a motel in New Castle, Delaware.

Around 7:52 a.m. Tuesday, officials say they received reports of a fire on the 100 block of S. Dupont Highway.

Upon arrival, crews heavy smoke coming from the building.

Authorities say two women, ages 27 and 40, were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation and transported to the hospital.

The fire originated in the office of the motel and was caused by discarded smoking material, officials say.

The occupants of unaffected areas of the motel were allowed to stay in their rooms, as officials say only the office and a few rooms nearby were damaged.

The damage is estimated at approximately $75,000.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office has determined the fire was accidental.
