Corbett: It's OK For States To Review Proposed Comcast-Time Warner Merger

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Governor Corbett says he sees nothing wrong with states conducting their own review of the proposed merger between Comcast and Time-Warner.

Reuters reports that Florida and other states are joining with the Justice Department in reviewing the proposed merger of cable giants.

Governor Corbett, a former attorney general, sees nothing unusual about that:

"Comcast has been a great company here in Pennsylvania. It's a significant player here in Pennsylvania, particularly here in the Philadelphia region. The reason you have anti-trust laws and investigations is to make sure there's not an anti-trust violation. I think those are appropriate."

As for Pennsylvania, Reuters quotes a spokesman as saying the attorney general is "reviewing the case independently."

When asked to confirm that quote, the spokesman said in an email that the office is "closely monitoring the status of the proposed transaction." He did not respond to a subsequent email asking if that included an anti-trust review.
