Large Snake On Loose In Gloucester County Found, Returned To Owner

PAULSBORO, NJ (CBS) – (UPDATE) -- Police say a large snake, believed to be a boa constrictor, that was spotted near a home in Gloucester County, New Jersey has been found and returned to its owner.

Officers were called to the 200 block of East Jefferson Street in Paulsboro on Tuesday night after the snake was spotted under a porch.

Animal Control was contacted, but were unable to capture the snake before it went into a hole in the ground.

Police said the snake is believed to be 10-12 feet long and approximately 60 pounds.

Authorities said the snake was not poisonous, but were concerned it could cause injury and kill small animals.

Residents were being urged to be aware when letting pets outside.
