Construction On College Avenue Bridge In Haverford Township To Get Underway

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Beginning Tuesday, thousands of drivers in Delaware County will be detoured from their daily route for a year.

Construction on the 85-year-old College Avenue Bridge in Haverford Township will last a year, according to Charles Metzger, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

"It's going to be a $5.2 million project to replace the structurally deficient College Avenue Bridge over the SEPTA railroad tracks," Metzger said, "and also an adjacent culvert over Cobbs Creek in Haverford Township."

While the work is being done, College Avenue will be closed and motorists will need to use Coopertown Road, Ardmore Avenue and Haverford Avenue to get around.

Some 4,6000 vehicles will be detoured every day.
