Connor Barwin Restores South Philadelphia Park To Give Back To Community
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday to unveil the newly-renovated Ralph Brooks Park. The park is located at 20th and Tasker Streets in South Philadelphia and cost around $450,000 to renovate.
Mayor Michael Nutter, Councilman Kenyatta Johnson and Urban Roots joined Barwin for Monday's ceremony.
Several individuals and programs came together to provide the funding including Barwin's Make the World Better Foundation, Parks and Recreation, Councilman Johnson, Urban Roots, Philly Rising, the Mural Arts Program, the 25th Foundation and Philadelphia Water.
"I am honored to have had the opportunity to work alongside some of our city's most distinguished leaders in the hopes of providing a safe and fun recreational site for our youth," Barwin said at the ceremony. "Ralph Brooks Park now stands as a special place in the neighborhood and one that will surely strengthen the surrounding communities. Philadelphia is my home and I take great pride in seeing it flourish. I want to thank everyone who played a role in revitalizing this park and for contributing to a project that aims to uplift the residents of this great city."
The renovation upgraded the playground's equipment. In addition to that, the park now has Green Stormwater Infrastructure which includes a rain garden at the southern end of the park and an underground trench along the western side.
The park also received new murals, a community garden and repaved basketball courts.
Barwin's next project is to revitalize Smith Playground in South Philadelphia.
