COATESVILLE, Pa. (CBS) -- A high school English teacher in Chester County is under arrest, accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage student at Coatesville Area High School more than six years ago.

Law enforcement authorities say 35-year-old Mark Hostutler is charged with corruption of a minor and endangering the welfare of children.  He's accused of having sex with a 17-year-old girl on four occasions in 2008.

The allegations just surfaced three weeks ago and now he has been suspended with the intent to dismiss.

The victim told police that Hostutler would provide her with alcohol, then the two would have sex, either at his home in East Goshen or at his parents' house in West Brandywine Township.

Current students at Coatesville tell Eyewitness News they were taken by surprise to learn of Hostutler's arrest.

"Good guy…"

According to the school website Hostutler who has worked at the district since 2007, was also a sportswriter,  noting he had written three sports related books and was a former sports reporter for a local newspaper.

The West Chester Area School District also put out a statement saying Hostutler had been employed as an assistant boys' basketball coach. They say there had been no reports of any improper contact during his time there.

The district's statement reads in part: 'Mr. Hostutler has been notified that he is not permitted on school property, nor permitted access to any of our students.'

Why did the student decide to come forward now? Law enforcement indicates the former student felt now was the right time.

Hostutler is free on $20,000 bail.
