Police: Discovery Of Bullet Prompts Lockdowns At 2 Schools In Mullica Hill

MULLICA HILL, N.J. (CBS) -- Two South Jersey schools were placed on lockdown Tuesday after a bullet was found in a parking lot, police said.

Police said one .22 caliber bullet was found near an entrance for the high school. It was not immediately known how long the bullet was in the parking lot.

"We are currently in a lockdown for precautionary measures."

That's the message parents of students at the Clearview Regional High School and middle school received after a maintenance worker found a .22 caliber bullet near the high school's media entrance.

A robo call did not explain the situation leaving parents frantically looking for answers.

Rudyard Porter says, "The call did say everyone was okay, of course we don't really know what means when the school, especially on a robo dial, says something."

John Bukenas says, "Your first instinct as a parent is to just run for your child, but you can't get in."

The students had a half day before their winter recess, which made some parents even more concerned.

Bukenas adds, "Today is the last day before break so if anybody was going to do anything stupid, today would be the day."

Officials do not know where the bullet came from or how long it was there, but they plan on reviewing surveillance video hoping to get those answers.

The lockdown has since been lifted.

The school emphasized that all students and staff were safe and were never in any danger.

The incident remains under investigation.
