City Releases Taney Dragons Parade Details

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The city of Philadelphia is planning a parade for the Taney Dragons Little League baseball team to be held on Wednesday, August 27th at 2 p.m.

The city announced the parade will begin at 20th and Market Streets and travel east on Market Street, go around the southwest corner of City Hall and travel south on Broad Street down to FDR Park at Broad and Pattison Streets.

Officials say there will be two stops along the parade route. The first stop is at the Kimmel Center, where the little leaguers will be serenaded by the Philly POPS!

The second stop is at Broad Street and Washington Avenue where the Mummers will perform.

The parade will end with a rally in FDR Park near the south side baseball fields.

Mayor Michael Nutter made the initial parade announcement Sunday during a homecoming celebration for the team at Love Park.

The event was held to honor a run by Taney that captivated the Philadelphia region. The Dragons were a team of firsts. The first Philadelphia team to reach the Little League World Series, Mo'ne Davis was the first female pitcher to win a game in the Series, and the very first Little Leaguer to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Taney coach Alex Rice said the entire team felt all of the support from the city they love.

"It's incredibly satisfying," Rice said. "I couldn't be more happy. It was a good summer."

And while that may have been a bit of an understatement from the coach, player Jahli Hendricks summed it up.

"I'm so happy that we made it and we got to play, and we got so far," Hendricks said. "Third best in the country!"

In addition to the parade, the Philadelphia Phillies announced Sunday that the Taney Dragons will be honored during a pregame ceremony Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park.

The entire Taney roster will take part in this special tribute, with their families and coaches in attendance.

The Dragons finished two wins shy of winning the 2014 Little League World Series Championship, held in Williamsport. They were also the 2014 Mid-Atlantic Little League champions.
