Chip Kelly's Day-After Presser: 'We All Contribute To Our Wins & Losses.'
PHILADELPHIA, PA (CBS) — The aftermath was no different for Chip Kelly. The Eagles' coach wore the same blank expression that he had after Sunday's 53-20 debacle against the Green Bay Packers.
"We made too many mistakes against a really, really good football team that played very well offensively. Aaron Rodgers was on fire and we didn't play very well ourselves," Kelly said during his day-after presser with the media. "Offensively, we moved the ball in certain times and you get penalty that sets you back and that drives stalls, and you look at specific drives and why the broke down.
"When they're scoring the way they're scoring, you have to keep up with them. The fact is, you dispose of anything quicker, a loss is a loss, whether it's a 1-point loss or a 21-point loss. It's about the same mechanics of what we do. If you have a mistake, you admit your mistake and try not to repeat it again. To quantify a loss by too many points or by one point, it's not the way we operate. We come here on Tuesday and go through meetings."
The 53 points is the third-most points ever given up by the Eagles. It's the most points the Eagles have surrendered in a game since a 62-10 loss to the New York Giants on Nov. 26, 1972, and before that, a 56-7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 9, 1966.
Turning the page after Sunday was explained by Kelly as, "I just think that's how we're wired. It's about the next challenge and the next opportunity to go out there. I think we have a bunch of real professionals in that locker room. The one thing they understand is that we stick together. We lost as a coaching staff, as a special teams team, an offensive team and a defensive team. It's not a finger-pointing operation. We all contribute to our wins and we all contribute to our losses."
Kelly said the Eagles were slipping off blocks and many plays that needed corrected in the run game. Kelly also said that LeSean McCoy is doing a good job, despite rushing for 88 yards against Green Bay and 19 in the 45-21 Carolina victory. Darren Sproles is averaging 3.5 carries a game.
"I just don't think we're running the ball well overall and LeSean is our guy and he's doing a good job," Kelly said. "That has to do with the rotation right now."
Bradley Fletcher was also a point of discussion. The Eagles' cornerback was burned on a few long Rodgers' passes to Jordy Nelson. Kelly admitted Fletcher could have played a few of those passes better, but "I think he came back and had a couple of really good pass breakups."
