Chicago Winter Storm Impacting Flights To And From Philly International

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A big winter storm in Chicago is wreaking havoc on air travel and impacting flights to and from Philadelphia.

A blanket of snow has already covered the windy city and its surrounding suburbs, and the forecast is calling for an additional 3 to 5 inches to fall Sunday night.

The storm has forced the cancellation of more than a thousand flights to and from Chicago -- and the effects are being felt at Philadelphia International Airport.

Numerous flights from Philadelphia to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport have been cancelled, along with flights expected to arrive in Philly from Chicago.

Travelers and those expecting to pick someone up at the airport are being urged to visit the airport's website to check the status of a flight.

Parts of the Philadelphia region also are bracing for the possibility of snow and freezing rain Sunday night, but nothing close to what Chicago is dealing with.
