Chester County DA: Coaches Did Not Know About Conestoga Hazing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan addressed the allegations of hazing involving the football team at Conestoga High School, saying coaches knew very little about what was going on.

Hogan, speaking with Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, stated that there was no adult supervision of anything that happened inside the locker room.

"We went straight to coaches and said what's going on here? What did you guys know? They told us, first of all, we didn't know anything about this particular incident and, as a matter of fact, we didn't know about 'No Gay Thursday' and what's going on in the locker room. We were really pressing them about that. How could that be? When we talked to the kids, the kids told us, no, that actually makes sense because the coaches weren't in the locker room. That locker room was considered ours to do with what we wanted, when we wanted, where we wanted and how we wanted."

He implied the crimes committed by former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky had something to do with coaches not entering the locker room, but thinks it is necessary for them to have a presence there.

"A little bit of this goes back to the whole Sandusky thing and kids being uncomfortable with coaches in the locker room and some sensitivity about that stuff. But I was a high school athlete, I was a college athlete, particularly in high school, the coaches have to be in there."
