Cherry Hill Police Launch Body Cam Program

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Cherry Hill Police Department has launched its body cam program.

"We're on our second generation of in-car cameras, and we just felt that moving forward with the body cameras was just a natural progression for us," said Cherry Hill Police Chief William Monaghan.

He says every officer in the department wears a body cam while on duty.

"It makes the officers more accountable, it makes the public more accountable. It'll cut down on false or frivolous complaints," said Monaghan.

Monaghan says that at the end of a shift, the footage is uploaded to evidence.com, a cloud-based storage system.

"Once that camera records that information, the officers have no way to manipulate it," he explained.

And that, says Monaghan, means more transparency for all involved.

"We're really excited to get it out there, and we feel that it's definitely going to be a protection for the officers, and the community as a whole," he said.
