Cheers For CHOP: Having Fun While Raising Money For The Hospital
KING OF PRUSSIA (CBS) - Hundreds gathered in King Of Prussia Saturday night hoping to make a difference in the lives of sick children.
"Cheers for CHOP is an amazing dance party that raises money every year for a different area in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia," says Katy Friedland -- president of Friends of CHOP -- the organization that hosted the event.
Doctors and donors filled the Valley Forge Casino for the CHOP fundraiser, but it wasn't your typical fundraiser.
"Cheers for CHOP is the hottest, hippest, youngest, coolest event that raises a lot of money for CHOP," says the event's planner Karen Pecora.
Each year that money goes to a different department. This year's beneficiary: Emergency Medicine, where James Callahan is lead physician.
"Some of this will be used for ultrasound equipment so we can use less ionizing radiation, quicker diagnosis for kids," he says, "and we'll also be using it for a lot of psychosocial things for children in the emergency department and support for their family while they're there."
He says as always he was very pleased with all the support they got.
