CDC Report Sheds New Data On What Time Of Day Most Babies Are Born
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A new study is revealing some interesting things about giving birth in the United States.
According to the CDC's Center for Health Statistics, most babies are born in the morning or during midday hours, with the highest percentage occurring during the 8 a.m. and noon hours.
Weekend births were more likely to happen in the later hours of the night or very early hours of the morning, while c-sections were least likely to occur in the evening hours or early morning hours.
Interestingly, out-of-hospital births had their own unique pattern, too. The CDC says the percentage of deliveries declined from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a slight increase at noon, and then increased from 3 p.m. to 4 a.m., with a slight drop at midnight.
The CDC says it examined 2013 birth certificate data from the National Vital Statistics System (NVSS), which encompasses 90% of U.S. births.
