CDC: Many Americans Are Not Getting The Recommended Cancer Screenings
WASHINGTON, DC (CBS) – Americans at risk for cancer are not getting the recommended screenings.
The CDC says about one-fourth of eligible women are not up-to-date with breast cancer screenings, and about two in five adults are not getting the recommended test for colorectal cancer.
Researchers say they used the 2013 NHIS, the most recent data available, to examine breast, cervical, and CRC screening in adults, and adults without insurance were the least likely to get screened.
"Progress toward meeting Healthy People 2020 cancer screening targets was not observed in 2013 compared with 2010," the CDC writes. "Mammography use remained essentially stable, Pap test use declined, and [colorectal cancer] test use was essentially unchanged."
