CBS 3 Pet Project: Halloween Pet Safety
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Witches, werewolves, maybe even a Frankenstein or two will fill the streets on Halloween night. While a little spooking is all in good fun, trick-or-treaters in costume may seem a little scary to dogs.
You and your pet can have an enjoyable and stress-free Halloween by following these steps:
Leave your pooch at home -- don't bring Spot with you while you're taking the little ones door-to-door because you can't anticipate what kind of costumes or decorations you may run into and some may make pets run away or become aggressive.
Put your pet in a "safe room" -- keep Spot away from all the fuss where he won't be disturbed by incessant door bell ringing and knocking. This helps keep dogs calm and reduces the chance of them running away.
Pick a comfortable costume -- if you're planning on dressing Spot up, owners should consider if the dog likes wearing the costume you picked out and also how other dogs might perceive them in the costume to avoid an unfriendly encounter.
