Cape May County Zoo Welcomes 8-Year-Old Female Amur Leopard
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J., (CBS) – A zoo in South Jersey is welcoming a new member to its family.
Judah, an eight-year-old female Amur leopard, has arrived to the Cape May County Zoo.
"It is with great pride I introduce the newest member of our Zoo family. We are honored to have Judah at the Cape May County Zoo and participate in the AZA Species Survival Plan (SSP) for Amur Leopards," said Freeholder E. Marie Hayes, who oversees the Cape May County Park and Zoo, in a news release.
The Amur Leopard is a very rare subspecies of the Spotted Leopard that originates from the Amur River Valley between the border of Northern China, the Korean Peninsula and Russia's Far East, according to the news release.
In addition, the newly built Spotted Leopard Habitat has also opened at the Cape May County Zoo.
"This structure is a great enhancement to our Zoo and a display of the skills and talents of the staff," said Hayes.
The Cape May County Park and Zoo is open Dec. 24 from 10 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. and closed on Dec. 25.
Zoo winter hours are 10 a.m. until 3:35 pm. The hours for the Main Park is 7 a.m. until dusk.
