Bucs QB Brad Johnson Paid To Have Footballs Altered Before Super Bowl XXXVII
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Apparently, tampering with footballs happens more often than we thought.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Brad Johnson admitted he tampered with the footballs before the Bucs' Super Bowl XXXVII win over the Raiders, two weeks after his team upset the Eagles in Philadelphia in the NFC Championship game. Johnson wore a glove for the 26-degree played game in Philly.
"I paid some guys off to get the balls right," Johnson now admits per tampabay.com. "I went and got all 100 footballs, and they took care of all of them."
Johnson he paid $7,500 to get the balls tampered. The Bucs smoked the Raiders 48-21 and Oakland's quarterback Rich Gannon threw five interceptions.
On Wednesday morning, a league source said the Patriots deflated 11 of their 12 footballs during their AFC Championship win over the Colts.
