Bucks County's First Rehabilitation Hospital Opens On Wednesday

LANGHORNE, Pa (CBS) --- This Wednesday, Bucks County will see the doors open on the county's first rehabilitation hospital.

The St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital was in development for 2 years.

The 50-bed hospital is for patients suffering from the physical and medical effects of stroke, brain injuries, trauma, amputations, and more.

Stacy Johnson, the Director of Business Development for the hospital, says it's the first such facility in Bucks County for patients needing medical and physical help back from specific injuries.

"Stroke or a brain injury or a spinal cord injury, multi-trauma injury, but also patients that are medically complex and have become debilitated through the course of their illness or injury," Johnson explained.

Johnson said the facility will be especially useful for those who live in the county.

"We are ripe with a lot of fabulous rehabilitation in the region," she said, "but if you have an older couple and the husband suffers a stroke, his 75-year-old wife may not want to drive downtown to visit him."

The facility cost $20.4 million and is located on Langhorne-Newtown Road, across the street from St. Mary Medical Center.
