Broad Street Run Kick Off Event Held At Love Park

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's 35th annual Broad Street Run is taking place on May 4th and Mayor Michael Nutter was among those getting the word out in Love Park Tuesday afternoon.
Forty-thousand runners are signed up and 100,000 spectators are expected to line the 10-mile route.
The starting line is at Broad Street and W. Fisher Avenue in North Philadelphia and the finish line is inside the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia, where there's a family friendly festival area planned.
Mayor Nutter says strong security measures are being taken, some are visible and others are not.
"We have dealt with issues of, you know kind of, concealed bags and gone through the whole clear bags, discouraged runners and others even to bring those kinds of materials or put them in a secure location. Some of those kinds of more visible things and there is a bunch of other stuff that quite frankly I can't talk about."
The mayor says 500 volunteers are needed along the course way.
