Grandfather Of Haddon Township Boy Speaks Out

By David Spunt

HADDON TOWNSHIP, N.J., (CBS) -- Two days after Brendan Creato died in Haddon Township, his grandfather opened up for the first time on television.

David Creato told Eyewitness News that losing his only grandchild is painful, and he hopes authorities quickly find out what happened.

"I can't even look at his picture right now without bursting out and crying. It's just devastating," David Creato told Eyewitness News.

Creato said losing his grandson is a nightmare that won't stop.

"Words can't describe how I'm feeling right now. It's just devastating to have him pulled away from us," he said.

Brendan Creato, 3, spent the night with his dad, David's son, in Haddon Township Monday night. Tuesday morning around 6, D.J. Creato was on the phone with police.

Police found little Brendan's body not even half a mile from his dad's apartment, in the woods near a local park. Hundreds gathered to remember the boy Tuesday night. Wednesday night, many are without answers.

"To just go to sleep one night, and wake up and he's not there and there's no answers. What happened," Creato said.

David Creato says little Brendan came into his own life when his father died three years ago. Now, he feels empty and confused about what the future holds. The only thing he knows is his grandson left an important mark during his short life.

"He was given to us like a surprise and he was taken away with a surprise. It was just like an angel coming here," Creato said.

On Wednesday, authorities announced that Brendan's autopsy came back inconclusive. They are waiting on a toxicology report. No one has been charged in the case.
