Box Office Report: The Girl On The Train Rolls Into The Top Spot

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Girl on the Train sped ahead to a first-place finish at the box office.
The debuting mystery-thriller based on the best-seller, starring Emily Blunt, earned an estimated $25 million.
That put it ahead of last weekend's leader, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, which took in $15 million as the runner-up.
In third place was the holdover, Deepwater Horizon, with $12 million.
Another new attraction – Nate Parker's slavery drama, The Birth of a Nation – placed sixth with just over $7 million.
And the weekend's other new mainstream release, the teen-targeted comedy, Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, totaled just under $7 million, good for seventh place.
Overall, industry-wide totals were lower than those of last weekend as well as those of a year ago.
