WWII-Era Ammunition Found In Radnor Home

RADNOR, Pa. (CBS/AP) -- Police responding to complaints about the condition of a suburban Philadelphia house say they found a large supply of ammunition dating back to World War II inside.

Delaware County authorities say the bomb squad was called to a home located in the 1300 block of Marlyn Circle in Radnor just before 2 p.m. Monday.

Officials say they were met by an odor in the backyard that was enough to make them go inside.

While they were investigating, old munitions as well as hollow-point bullets were discovered inside the home.

Radnor Township Police Superintendent William Colarulo says police found rooms filled with garbage and discovered containers filled with chemicals buried in the backyard.

The township manager says one of the chemicals inside included Nitric acid.

An Ordinance Disposal Unit was called in to safely handle them.

Officials say the 80-year-old homeowner arrived while investigators were combing the home. He is a licensed firearms broker who has a permit to carry.

Colarulo says the man blamed the home's condition on 20 cats he once owned that are now dead and buried in the backyard.

No charges have been filed.

There were no injuries reported in the incident.
