Bitter Cold Blast Grips Region
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- By late morning, the bulk of the snow had pulled away from the region with clearing skies behind it and bitter cold temps.
The first winter storm of the year definitely packed a punch, blanketing the region with up to 10-inches of snow. Some areas in eastern New Jersey are digging out from higher amounts. Many roads are still snow covered and commuters are dealing with blowing and drifting snow and slippery spots. A Winter Storm warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. and visibility will be reduced as the wind blows the light fluffy snow around.
Some totals from the area include:
PENNSYLVANIA:
Allentown 7.2"
Bensalem 7.0"
Bethlehem 7.5"
Brookhaven 5.8"
Philadelphia 9.0"
West Chester 5.5"
NEW JERSEY:
Bordentown 8.0"
Millville 6.5"
Lakewood 10.0"
Harrington 6.8"
DELAWARE:
Wilmington 6.0"
Temperatures during the day Friday will not make it out of the teens with NW wind gusts of 15-25 mph creating dangerous wind chill factors below 0 and the evening forecasted low of 3 degrees will be the coldest temperature since 2005. Be sure to bundle up and give yourself plenty of extra time and use caution if you must head out the door.
We will see some improvement Saturday but temperatures for the Eagles game will remain in the 20s. Sunday will feature more seasonable temperatures but we already have our eyes on the next storm system which could bring us rain and snow into Monday.
CBS 3 Meteorologists are keeping a close eye on this system. A warm front arrives Sunday morning bringing with it primarily rain showers, but depending on the temperature profile at any point during the day, there could be a little mixing with some ice – but overall it should be too warm for anything but rain in most parts of the region.
Meanwhile, Monday morning, a cold front arrives; starting generally with some rain, but it may end with some snow. Another Arctic blast will arrive Tuesday and temperatures will once again struggle to climb out of the teens. Winter has a firm grip on the Delaware Valley so stay warm and stay with the Eyewitness Weather team to keep you ahead of every storm. We'll keep you posted as it evolves.
THREE DAY FORECAST:
