Bensalem School Briefly Placed In Lockdown Mode After Man Escapes Police Custody
BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) – A Bensalem school was locked down after a man in police custody briefly escaped while being transported.
Around 9:45 a.m., the male, who was in court waiting to be transported to Bucks County Prison, fled the courthouse while in handcuffs.
Earlier in the day, police had taken that person, identified as Ishmael Burk of Levittown, into custody for several traffic warrants and transported him to court.
As a result of the escape and due to its close proximity to Bensalem High School, the school was placed into "Inspector Mode," meaning all outside access doors were locked.
About 45 minutes later, Burk was located off of Galloway hiding in a wooded area and was taken into custody.
Burk is now facing criminal charges for escape and related offenses.
A judge has set his bail at $125,000 or 10 percent cash. Burk was unable to post and was sent to Bucks County Prison.
