Bear Euthanized In Horsham Township

By Jim Melwert

HORSHAM, Pa. (CBS) - A bear that was spotted around 1:30 this morning, along a wooded area behind the Wawa along route 611 near County Line Road has been euthanized.

The Game Commission confirms the bear was put down due to an injury to the back left leg. They believe it is the same bear that was in Chalfont earlier this week.

Bill Wambold lives on the other side of the trees. He spotted the bear and called police.

"You know, it's a scary thought," Wambold says. "You don't see that in Horsham every day. You don't see it, so it's a little eerie. You know, until they find it or whatever happens."

The Game Commission was notified, along with area school districts, though police say it was more of a precaution as there aren't any schools in the immediate area.

Police say bears are generally scared of humans and will keep their distance, but any animal that feels threatened could become aggressive, so they stress if anyone sees the bear they should stay away and call 911.
