Atlantic City's Showboat Holds Job Fair
by Paul Kurtz
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (CBS) -- At least a thousand people turned out for a six hour job fair Tuesday at the soon-to-reopen Showboat in Atlantic City.
Reginald Owen was first in line when the doors opened at 1 in the afternoon.
"I got here at 5:45 this morning. Me and my sister came together and she's number two behind me," he said.
The possibility of gainful employment was a powerful lure for Owen and all those who heard that Showboat would be reopening, minus the casino, in early July.
"I need a job bad and I've been putting applications in everywhere and I'm just trying to get some work," said Owen.
"Right now I'm not working and I have a family to support just like everyone else. How long have you been out of work? A little over two years, I guess," said another person waiting.
Lisa Augustine, Regional Director of Operations at ACSB Hospitality, says they're looking to hire about 200 people.
"General Manager, Director of Sales, front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, every department, all the food and beverage outlets that will be opening. We'll be looking for dishwashers, cooks, bartenders, the whole nine yards," she said.
Augustine says they're moving fast. Many of those who make the cut will be told to report to work by next Monday.
