Atlantic City Police: Two NY Police Officers Arrested In Sexual Assault Investigation

ATLANTIC CITY (CBS) --- The Atlantic City Police Department says it has ended a six-month sexual assault investigation with the arrests of two New York police officers.

A press release from the Atlantic City Police Department says the investigation was focused on the alleged sexual assault of a 34-year-old New York woman that took place at the Taj Mahal Hotel and Casino in April of 2014.

A.C. Police say during the course of the investigation, two suspects were identified as Andrei Torres, 32, and Devon Thomas, 35. Both men are from New York. Torres is a 7-year veteran of the New York Police Department and Thomas has been a member of the New York State Police for three years.

The investigation resulted in charges and warrants being issued for both Torres and Thomas for charges involving sexual assault, according to Atlantic City Police.

Thomas was arrested Tuesday by the Internal Affairs Unit of the New York State Police. According to New York police, Torres was in the process of turning himself in on Tuesday.

Both officers are expected to be arraigned on Wednesday in New York Superior Court.
