Asher's Recalls 40 Chocolate Items Over Possible Salmonella

LEWISTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Asher's Chocolates in Pennsylvania has voluntarily recalled about 40 of its chocolate products due to possible salmonella contamination.

The products include wrapped chocolates, chocolate bars and chocolate covered pretzels and are sold nationally.

President and CEO Jeff Asher says in a statement that in the company's 124 years of business, they've never had a salmonella issue.

A full list of the recalled products can be found on the Food and Drug Administration's website. They include Asher's Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate Mini Pretzels, Asher's Almond Butter Crunch, and Asher's Fall Prepack candies.

No illnesses have been reported from the chocolates.

Salmonella is a bacterial illness that can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in young children, older adults, and people with compromised immune systems. Most patients recover without treatment.
