As Clouds Give Way To Sun, Expect A Dry & Cold Start To The New Year

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Clouds are slowly but surely giving way to some sunshine across the Delaware Valley, from northwest to southeast. Don't worry Jersey Shore and Delaware, it's coming!

The reason for the clouds is a stagnant cold front draped just south of the region. A sprinkle or flurry is even possible across Sussex County. Highs on Tuesday will be in the upper 30s.

Once the sun arrives in your neighborhood, it'll be here to stay for the next several days. Both New Year's Eve and Day will be dry and cold, with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will remain stuck in the mid to upper 30s, before rising back into the 40s by the weekend.

The trade-off? Rain is likely late Saturday into Sunday.
