'Annie' At The Academy Of Music

By RJ McKay

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Frances Egler, the director of Broadway Philadelphia and programming and co-presentations at the Kimmel Center, shared a preview of the iconic Broadway smash hit, "Annie," at the Academy of Music from March 17th through 22nd.

"Well, Annie's the story of Little Orphan Annie, made famous back during Depression times on the famous comic strip. All the classics, like 'Tomorrow,' 'You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile,' 'It's a Hard Knock Life,' so it's basically one of the best classics of American musical theater on stage and brought to life," Egler explains.

Egler also says Director Martin Charnin "is one of the writers of the show originally, back in the 1970s. He has directed it almost 20 times, and he basically wants to bring what he feels is the classic version of 'Annie.'"
