Preparations For A Pope: National Security, Intelligence Analyst Discusses Measures For Papal Visit

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Much has been made of the extensive security measures going into place in Philadelphia for the visit of Pope Francis the last weekend in September.
But Edward Turzanski, a national security and intelligence analyst, says people thinking about or planning to come see the pope, but have heard the security described as "excessive" or "over the top," need to take a deep breath.
"It may cost you a bit more time to get through security, but the payoff is going to be in the real safety that is delivered," said Turzanski.
Turzanski, a long-time LaSalle University professor, says the experience of the Boston bombing has given security agencies valuable lessons they're now applying to crowd safety.
And, he says, you can help if you see unusual activity or an unattended bag.
"Mention it to someone in uniform, try to be as factual as possible, and also don't make a scene," said Turzanski.
