AMC To Develop Drama Based On The Black Lives Matter Movement

Philadelphia ( CW Philly) -- AMC is set to develop a new drama series focused on the Black Lives Matter movement.

Deadline has reported that the new show will be based on Washington Post reporter Wesley Lowery's bestselling book "They Can't Kill Us All: Ferguson, Baltimore, and a New Era in America's Racial Justice".

Lowery was a lead on the Post's "Fatal Force" project, tracking nearly 1,000 police shootings that occurred in 2015, which led to the project winning the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 2016. The book was acquired by production company Makeready last fall. Makeready founder Brad Weston and writer-producer LaToya Morgan, an alumna of shows like Into the Badlands and Shameless, will executive produce the show.

"They Can't Kill Us All" takes an in-depth look at how decades of compounded factors such as racially biased policing in segregated neighborhoods, sub-par schools, crumbling infrastructures, and scarcity of jobs have ultimately led to the explosive police brutality cases in Ferguson with Mike Brown, Cleveland with Tamir Rice, in Baltimore with Freddie Gray, and how events like these brought us to the birth of the Black Lives Matter movement. The show will "reflect current events and race relations through the stories and voices of fictional characters." (via Deadline)
