Amaro: Fans 'Don't Understand The Game'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- While the 19-28 Philadelphia Phillies lack excitement, fans have begun to cling on to some of the young rising talent in their farm system.

Specifically, in two 21-year-old right-handed pitchers for the Reading Fightin Phils in Double A---Aaron Nola (6-3, 1.87 ERA) and Zach Eflin (4-3, 2.28 ERA).

So will fans be able to get a closer look at either pitcher at Citizens Bank Park anytime soon?

"I think we're going to be conservative," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told CSNPhilly's Jim Salisbury.

But they're getting restless!

"They don't understand the game," Amaro said. "They don't understand the process. There's a process. And then they bitch and complain because we don't have a plan. There's a plan in place and we're sticking with the plan. We can't do what's best for the fan. We have to do what's best for the organization so the fan can reap the benefit of it later on. That's the truth."

As for veterans like Chase Utley, Cole Hamels, Jonathan Papelbon, and Ryan Howard, their future in Philadelphia remains unknown as the July 31st trade deadline nears.

"I've had dialogue on a variety of things over the last several weeks and that will continue," Amaro said Monday. "There's been dialogue on all these guys. But nothing is imminent.

"These guys having success is good for us on all fronts, whether they stick with us and continue to be part of what we're trying to do moving forward or whether we utilize those assets to improve our club," he continued. "Them doing well can only help our club."
