Man in Allentown shooting that injured 4 turns himself in: DA

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Four people injured during a shooting in Allenton on Monday are expected to survive their injuries, and now the man accused of pulling the trigger is facing multiple charges.

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan announced Wednesday that 22-year-old Axel Yadiel Suarez-Vidal is charged with four counts of criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. Holihan said Suarez-Vidal, who's accused of firing into a crowd that gathered outside a home Tuesday night, surrendered to police earlier in the morning and will be arraigned on the charges later Wednesday.

The shooting happened on the 1800 block of West Turner Street, near Muhlenberg College, on Feb. 20 around 7 p.m.

Students and staff at the school were initially told to shelter in place, but that order was lifted a short time later. Allentown police and the DA's office both said Wednesday that based on the investigation so far, they believe the shooting was unrelated to Muhlenberg College.

The four victims, three adult women and one adult man, were taken to the hospital in private vehicles. Based on initial reports it was unclear if all four people suffered gunshot wounds, but according to Holihan, they were all shot.

It's unclear what led to the shooting, but the DA's office is asking anyone with information to contact the Allentown Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 610-437-7721 or the Allentown Police Department Complaint Desk at 610-437-7753.
