Plane's Engine Lost Power Before Crashing In Camden County
LINDENWOLD, N.J. (CBS) —We're hearing for the first time from one of the victims of a plane crash last month in Camden County. His assessment of what happened comes in a preliminary report from federal investigators.
The men on board the two-seater Ercoupe 415C were seriously hurt when the plane went down in Lindenwold in the early afternoon hours of October 19.
The passenger tells the National Transportation Safety Board the pilot noted 'something was wrong with the throttle' before the engine lost power.
The flight met its premature end amid trees in the back yard of a home. The NTSB says the wings, fuselage, and cockpit were substantially damaged.
The pilot, from Marlton, suffered severe cuts to his face. The passenger, from Cherry Hill, broke his hip.
Nothing remarkable about the weather that day -- and the single-engine plane appeared to have plenty of fuel when it took off from Flying W Airport in Lumberton.
