After Ice Storm, Delaware Valley Tree Surgeons Get The Call... Stat!

By Brad Segall

WILLOW GROVE, Pa. (CBS) -- This latest round of winter weather won't be profitable for the snowplow drivers, but it will be for the companies that take down damaged trees.

At Colonial Tree Service, in Southampton (Bucks County), Pa., the phone started ringing around six in the morning.  Customers had trees down that needed to be cleared.

One of the first calls came from Brandi Delzingaro and her family.  They heard a loud thump around 5am.

"And because the power was out, I couldn't really see everything too clearly until the sun came out," she tells KYW Newsradio,  "and then I noticed that it was on our roof."

Bruce Ross, of Colonial, says it may take a couple of days to clear this tree because his men are facing some real challenges:

"Mainly the ice -- it makes everything very slippery, and it's dangerous for the guys.  They can't climb the trees properly, and when rigging stuff you gotta make sure it's right, because everything can slide off."

.
They expect to be busy for several days, working as much as 15 hours a day to clear all the trees.
