Abandoned As Baby At Allentown Burger King In 1986, Woman Turns To Social Media To Find Mom

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A search for answers.

A 27-year-old woman from the Lehigh Valley is trying to find her birth mother. The woman who abandoned her at a Burger King bathroom just hours after she was born.

Eyewitness News reporter Ileana Diaz talked with the woman about her search and how she's using Facebook to help that effort.

It's been 27 years since Katheryn Deprill last saw her birth mother. It was at this Allentown Burger King where Katheryn's mother abandoned her inside the public restroom. And years later, Katheryn says, she's at peace with what happened.

"I'm so thankful that she took care of me. There was no drugs in my system. I was left in a warm dry place," she said.

Minutes later an employee and customer found Katheryn and she was adopted at an early age. But now with three kids of her own, Katheryn wants answers so she took to Facebook and posted this photo asking for help to track down her birth mother, it went viral. And the photo has been shared more than 27,000 times.

"Shows a softer side to people, just like wow, something this horrible happened to her, and she can forgive. So I think it just touches people in different level. Just realizing it's okay," Katheryn said.

But it wasn't always okay.

"When I was 12-years-old, I was very upset. How could, you know, what did I do that was so horrible that no one wanted me? But now, it's normal," Katheryn said.

Now she's hoping her mother or someone that knows her will come forward.

"I really would like to know my past medical history, that's really important to me," she said.

Katheryn said she hasn't heard anything from her birth mother yet.

"I'm eventually going to stop putting myself out there," she said.

But until then, she says it's inspiring to see how her search is touching so many.

"I've had mothers come to me and say you've really encouraged me to go look for my son or daughter who I gave up for adoption," she said.

Katheryn Deprill is hoping her mother will come forward and Lehigh Valley attorneys say because she was abandoned so long ago, the mother would not face any charges.
