A Tattoo Innovation For Breast Cancer Survivors
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Free tattoos are at the center of an event later this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, being hosted by a South Jersey organization.
At the Beau Institute in Mount Laurel, Rose Marie Beauchemin explains how the ink works.
"We can just take the breast mount and give her a whole three-dimensional effect."
Beauchemin uses 3D tattooing -- recreating the nipple and areola lost to mastectomy.
"They're beautiful, natural colors. It looks like it's painted on."
She said very fine needles cause no trauma.
"We can put that icing on the cake for them and 'finish' this woman. It makes her feel whole, confident, and complete."
Beau Institute schedules free tattooing for breast cancer survivors year-round, but the Day of Hope on October 26th makes an event of it, with multiple practitioners and lunch and other treats.
