8th Body Found At Train Derailment Scene
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The body of an 8th victim was found Thursday morning at the scene of an Amtrak train derailment in Philadelphia, the fire commissioner announced.
Fire Commissioner Derrick Sawyer said the body of the 8th victim was found at the scene by workers Thursday at about 8 a.m.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said the body was taken to the medical examiner's office. The identity of the victim was not immediately released.
Sawyer said a cadaver dog helped in locating the victim.
The discovery now brings the total of fatalities to eight in connection with the derailment of an Amtrak train in Philadelphia on Tuesday.
During a news conference Thursday, Nutter said city officials believe they have accounted for all 243 people on-board the train when it crashed. Nutter said 43 people remain in hospitals.
Eight people were killed and over 200 people were injured when Amtrak train #188 derailed in Philadelphia Tuesday evening. The NTSB acknowledged that the train was going 106 MPH in a 50 MPH zone.
Amtrak CEO Joseph Boardman said he expects full service between Philadelphia and New York to resume by Tuesday.
