A Great Big World Entertains At Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia

By Michael Cerio

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Before taking the stage at World Cafe Live on Tuesday, Ian Axel and Chad King of A Great Big World visited with an equally enthusiastic crowd at The Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia.

"They come down and watch, some kids call in because it's broadcast all over the hospital. It's amazing, it's an amazing experience for us and hopefully for them too" says Chad King.

The "Say Something" singers broadcasted from the Ryan Seacrest studio within CHOP, performing songs off their latest album When The Morning Comes and taking questions from the young audience. "We get to just spread a little love, and it reminds us why we do this" explains Ian Axel.

"Music is magic and it brings people together, and we're just really lucky to be channels for music and are able to perform these songs that we feel like come from this bigger place anyway, so it feels like we're doing what we're supposed to be doing. Just sharing love and hopefully making the world just a teeny little bit better" Axel says.

The music of A Great Big World is custom-built for a place like The Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia. There's a genuine candid thread of positivity that runs through the band's music that has been an uplifting force for fans since their debut in 2013. "It's funny because I don't think that we intentionally try to put that in our music, it just sort of happens because that's what we're feeling, that's the advice we sort of need for ourselves to use" says King.

"We're positive people" adds Axel. "I think we just try to be as honest as we can with our songwriting and try to be as vulnerable as we can, and that's how we grow and connect with people."
