Surveillance video shows impact of crash involving school bus carrying 3 students in West Philly

Surveillance Video: School bus slams into SUV in West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Several people were taken to the hospital after a crash involving a school bus in West Philadelphia. Police say the school bus and an SUV collided near 52nd and Spruce Streets, around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Officials say three high school-aged kids and the bus driver were on the school bus when the crash happened. They were all visibly shaken up and taken to the hospital to get checked out.

The students were headed to Dobbins Technical High School.

Two people inside the SUV were taken to a local hospital for unknown injuries. They were treated on the scene.

Surveillance video obtained by Eyewitness News shows the SUV driving through the intersection when it's hit by the bus and slams into the side of a nearby vacant building.

People nearby say they heard the commotion.

"Horrific, when I seen the school bus, I hope there's no children on the bus and then the van, I pray they made it out fine. My concern was always about the catastrophic stuff. Outside of that I just prayed for them," West Philadelphia resident Annamarie Cann said.

Cann tells Eyewitness News the intersection is hectic.

"A lot of time they blow through the lights. People are just rude today, They don't have any compassion or patience for anything," Cann said.

The School District of Philadelphia released a statement regarding the crash: "The safety of our students and staff is a top priority for the District. We are grateful for the support of the first responders who assisted following the incident and evaluated students."

There is no official word on what caused the crash at this time.
