POTTSTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Dozens of rival gang members are in custody after a lengthy investigation in the Pottstown area.

The two gangs called themselves the "Straight Cash Money Gang" and "Brothas from Anotha."

Montgomery County district attorney Risa Ferman said this morning that the groups were rivals not just in selling drugs but in violence, without regard to anyone in the community.

"People who live here, they want to be able to go outside," she said, "they want to be able to sit on their front stoop, they want to be able to send their kids out to the playground without reckless, brazen thugs shooting each other."

Ferman says 47 warrants have been issued and 34 arrests have been made in an investigation that began last summer and includes local, county, state, and federal agencies: "Agencies united in the understanding that we will not let thugs take over our streets," Ferman said.

Charges include attempted murder, drug dealing, assault, and illegal firearms sales.
