20 Years Ago Today: The O.J. Simpson Bronco Chase

By Steve Beck

LOS ANGELES (CBS) -- It can be argued that true "Reality TV" began 20 years ago today with one of the most infamous police chases in the history of television.

On June 17th, 1994, a white Ford Bronco, with O.J. Simpson in the back seat and driven by Simpson's friend Al Cowlings, led police on a bizarre chase on Interstate 405 in Los Angeles.

All three major networks, including CBS, interrupted their regular programming and followed the chase as it played out live.

The chase eventually came to an end at Simpson's home in Brentwood. Simpson got out of the Bronco, went inside his home for about an hour and was later taken into custody.

When it was all said and done, 95 million viewers nationwide watched the chase on TV.

Four days earlier, Simpson's ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were found murdered outside her condo in Brentwood.

O.J. Simpson was tried for the murders, but he was found not guilty.

It was one of those days in American television history that people will always remember where they were when "the chase" was playing out. So where were you? Let us know in the comments section below.
